A Downtown Kansas City Wedding

Alexis + Kyle

Some love stories aren’t loud — they’re layered. Built slowly over time, rooted deeply in family, history, and place. Alexis and Kyle’s wedding day at Corrigan Station Rooftop in downtown Kansas City felt exactly like that kind of love: generational, intentional, and quietly extraordinary.

As a Kansas City wedding photographer, these are the stories that pull me in the most — the ones where love doesn’t need theatrics because the meaning is already woven into every detail.

A Kansas City Rooftop Wedding Rooted in Generations

Alexis and Kyle have known each other nearly their entire lives. Their families are both deeply rooted in Lawrence, Kansas, spanning generations with overlapping stories that somehow all led back to this moment. Though they didn’t begin dating until after high school, they spent nearly a decade growing together — moving to Colorado, then returning home to Kansas City, where family and history awaited them.

Choosing a downtown Kansas City wedding venue wasn’t just about the skyline. It was about coming home.

Corrigan Station Rooftop offered exactly what they were looking for: iconic city views, timeless architecture, and a setting that felt elevated yet personal — a celebration of where they’ve been and where they’re going.

Elevated Style with Personal Charm

The aesthetic of the day felt effortlessly refined. The groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos with bowties, while the bridesmaids stunned in champagne-colored silk gowns — each slightly different, flowing beautifully together. Paired with wildflower bouquets bursting in bright pinks, oranges, and yellows, the look felt polished but joyful.

The color palette mirrored a Kansas summer sunset — warm, radiant, and full of life. Classic black and champagne tones grounded the day, while vibrant florals added personality and playfulness.

It was the perfect balance of modern city elegance and heartfelt charm.

A July Rooftop Wedding with Perfect Kansas City Weather

Late July in Kansas City can be unpredictable — but Alexis and Kyle were gifted one of the most beautiful days of the summer. Soft clouds provided shade, the sun warmed the city just enough, and the rooftop breeze made the entire day feel light and celebratory.

For a summer rooftop wedding in Kansas City, it was nothing short of ideal.

Family Traditions & Once-in-a-Lifetime Moments

This wedding day was deeply anchored in family.

Alexis shared a first look with both her dad and her stepdad — who has been in her life since she was four — followed by heartfelt dances with each of them at the reception. These moments felt tender and intentional, a beautiful reflection of the love that has shaped her life.

Music played an especially meaningful role in the ceremony. Kyle’s twin brother and older sister performed live, singing the very song Alexis’ mom once walked down the aisle to over twenty years ago — with Kyle’s mom originally serving as the vocalist. Generations folded into one another in the most poetic way, reminding everyone present that this love story has been quietly unfolding for years.

These weren’t just moments. They were echoes of love passed down.

City Details That Made the Day Unforgettable

One of my favorite details was tucked quietly into the venue itself — a pool table. Alexis grew up playing pool with her great uncle, and capturing the two of them playing together on her wedding day was tender and timeless.

Dinner was a pizza buffet (yes, truly the best idea), complete with custom pizza boxes that doubled as décor. And throughout the evening, a live wedding painter invited guests to add brushstrokes to Alexis and Kyle’s forever keepsake — a collaborative piece of art that will live on long after the day itself.

Photographing a Kansas City Wedding with Intention

Because of my own roots in Lawrence, Kansas, my connection to Alexis’ family runs deep — her grandmother was my middle school volleyball coach and a mentor throughout my teaching career. That trust carried into the wedding day, allowing me to help guide the flow of events, suggest meaningful photo locations, and even incorporate a streetcar ride through downtown Kansas City for portraits that felt modern, effortless, and full of life. These are the moments I value most as a photographer: when trust allows space for creativity, calm, and connection.

Before the wedding, Alexis and I met for coffee — the kind of face-to-face conversation that builds real understanding. Those meetings are the heart of my process, and they’re what allow me to photograph not just how a day looked, but how it felt.

A Final Word

After delivering their gallery, Alexis texted:

“IM OBSESSED!!!!!! You are amazing!!!! I love these!!!! Omg thank you so much 🥹 we had the best night of our lives!!!!!”

Alexis and Kyle’s Corrigan Station Rooftop wedding was a celebration of legacy, artistry, and love that spans generations — set against the city skyline of their new home.

And it was an honor to tell their story.
